Knowledge Cells
My KnCell Techniques have 2 major Purposes:
- Personal Knowledge Freedom.
- Learning for ourselves.
While it's often handy to get our answers from other people, we often want to figure things out for ourselves. It could be a real personal curiosity, or a vague distrust of the answers we've already received.
- Resolving Confusion.
Many, many groups and individuals today want to control and manipulate us to vote for their candidates, buy their products, or get our allegiance to their causes. They want to control how we think. To break and stay free of them, we need to see beyond their deceptive, manipulative techniques, and develop our own personal models of those things, ideas and people most important in our own lives.
- Sharing Knowledge.
- Individual to Individual
One of our deepest instincts, as humans, is to share with one another to bond.
We are pack animals, we need each other. If the pack, humanity, dies, we as individuals will also die. So we need to keep the pack alive, healthy and prosperous. Sharing creates this needed bond. We want to share our most personal meanings, those things most important to us. Much of that sharing is with words.
We translate our meanings into words and believe, sometimes just hope, that when the other person translates those words back into meanings, the meaning they extract from the words is the meaning we inserted. All to often it is not. So where is the problem?
Words are NOT meanings!
Individuals are very different. We all start with different DNA, grow up in different families, cultures, and career worlds. We all experience our share of personal trauma which effects how we see other people and the world itself. So naturally our individual meanings for the same word will vary widely.
- Group to group
- Natural Groups
We all belong to a great variety of natural groups, such as our family, our cultural origin, the town, city, state or nation where we grew up, our careers: dentists speak a different vocabulary, than bricklayers, accountants, poets, private investigators, florists, novelists etc. These 'private' languages with their own vocabularies grew naturally, and rarely cause concern, since dentists and florists rarely need to communicate, other than to buy a bouquet, and then they use the common vocabulary of business transactions. Within these professions there is little conflict, almost all accountants share a common vocabulary of concepts and practices. Indeed, there are Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), but still no
Generally Accepted Counselling Principles (GACP).
- Artificial Groups
Within academia, and some professions, like education and psychology (education for living) there is an extreme territoriality that resembles a dog peeing on a tree or fire hydrant. Their need to be superior, one up, dominant is very unhealthy, as they have minimal concern for their clients, people, and maximum concern for their little group to come out on top. The 3 I'm most familiar with is software, education and psychology.
- Software - where I earned a living for over 45 years, speciality languages proliferated. Each claiming to be the 'best'. To keep employable, I had to learn about 40 different languages or dialects, each with very rigid rules.
Bad, but not as bad as in my first love psychology.
- Education
The field of education has been over-stuffed with formal 'theories'. From Open classrooms, to Montessori, to Waldorf schools, etc. each claims they have the exclusive road to excellence. Fortunately, a recent development has brought some sanity to the situation. Home schooled students, relying on no formal theories, but the love, discipline, and organization of parents, have excelled in almost every category!
- Psychology - The Tower of Babel at it's worst.
Within psychological systems, and I've studied over 140 of them, the language barriers are far worse. Part of the problem is intent. The different 'schools' do not want to share knowledge of progress to help all clients, as for example the NTSB (National Transportation & Safety Board) does to make flying safer for ALL passengers, but want to make their particular 'system' the dominant one. This is not to say individuals psychologists do not have the best interests of their clients at heart, many do. But their mental approach is: If you want the best results, do it MY way.
As a Model for How to Share common meanings between different disciplines, given that you want to share knowledge here's how it could work.
This is not strictly KnCells, a technique for capturing personal meanings, but any model, such as my 5 Necessary & Sufficient Causes Model (5NSC), or any model you yourself create, can be overlayed or used within KnCells for exploring knowledge on your own terms. The 5NSC model basically says there are 5 factors for creating or maintaining anything, including human behaviors (Intent, Resources, Skills, Organization and Contexts). So by translating each of the hundreds of psychological 'systems' to this most basic model, you can determine, for yourself, where they agree, disagree, and overlap.
This holds equally for bridging the gap between the many artificially isolated mental 'disciplines', such as: spirituality, mental or cognitive sciences, emotional disciplines, and the many physical (body) disciplines of both the bio-medical model, and many related physical disciplines such as: energy work, EFT, acupuncture, nutrition, massage, rolfing, etc. We must move away from the current quagmire of totally separate even competing mental disciplines, each with it's own special vocabulary, rules, principles, national and international associations, and even fancy certificates. Currently, each defends it's own turf, and believes it's partial perspective is more important than the whole person and community.
- Concealing rather than Revealing.
There are still many individuals and groups who use the gap between words and meaning to conceal rather than reveal their true meanings. These Knowledge Freedom Techniques provide self-defense against these individuals and groups.
This also lays the groundwork for a model of Education.
